I’ve had much experience over the years with furry creatures, from hamsters to horses and lots in between. Some domesticated and even some wild that my family took in and added to our family. I learned much from volunteering at a horse ranch while my husband was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and I am learning more as time goes by, from my pets to now volunteering at the Tacoma Humane Society. Currently, I own one chocolate lab puppy, Choco (sounds like loco), and one horse, Dixie Trix. It’s funny how Choco came into our lives. Every time my husband has deployed, he has given me a little brown stuffed dog to cuddle with in his absence. I now have three of them. But when he returned from Iraq this last time, he surprised me with a very live little brown dog! I love our dog so much that he is not a merely a pet. He is a part of our family! I truly believe that humans do not rescue animals, pets rescue us. That little tiny fur ball opened up my heart in so many ways when he came into our lives. I would never let just anyone care for him in my absence. The same holds true for my horse. She is such a silly punk, and I love her! I have been taking care of her since August 2003, but I recently purchased her in September last year. I love that I don’t need to wear designer jeans or do my hair just right in order for her to love me. I just need to love and care for her and she opens right up to me. I wrap my arms around her neck and hug her every day! She is such a huge part of who I am! I have always had a passion for horses and swore I would enjoy the full care of them someday. And thanks to my patience and determination, I now enjoy a bond with that 1100 pound animal. As soon as we buy our house I will look to enjoying a fish tank once again, a couple of birds (I’m looking forward to owning a sun conure!), adding an adopted dog and purchasing another horse! I hope you will trust I will treat your pets as I treat my own. I know how important they are. I also understand they cannot use words to communicate with us, so we must pay special attention to their moods and actions to gain understanding of them. I am looking forward to meeting your special, furry friends!
