Kathie Baxter
Hi, my name is Kathie Baxter. I have owned animals all my life, starting
with dogs and cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, salamanders, snakes, pretty much
anything I could drag home. My best friend took me to ride a horse in the
third grade and I was hooked! I rode other people's horses for several
years before I eventually acquired my first horse while in college taking
Practical Horse Management. I still have that same horse today 20 years
later and her "foal" who is now 12. I have worked on several horse farms in
the Auburn/Enumclaw area, cleaning stalls, turnout, blanketing, exercising,
foaling, etc. I eventually realized my dream of owning my own farm and now
raise a herd of alpacas. I also have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses, a bunch of
chickens and ducks, and.well, I guess that's enough for now! Recently, in
reevaluating my career choice, I realized I would be much happier working
with animals in some capacity instead of computers. I took a job at a local
boarding kennel and quickly realized that something better was definitely
needed. The dogs were under so much stress, some would develop diarrhea,
some would stop eating, some would become depressed and others would whine
all day. The only interaction they had with humans was a couple of minutes
each day when they were given their meals. I eventually had enough and quit
as I couldn't stand rushing by rows of dogs desperate for some attention and
not being able to help them other than a few kind words through the cage, so
when I saw Sara's ad for pet sitters, I jumped at the chance to be able to
take care of pets in their home environment, interact with them and make
sure they are happy and not stressed. I believe it's a healthy option to
traditional boarding kennels and consider it my privilege to take care of
your pets and make sure they are cared for with the same loving care that I
treat my own.
